O The Laboratory of Microbiology of the Center for Biological and Health Sciences (CCBS) has been linked to the Postgraduate Program in Biotechnology and Genetic Resources (PPGB) since 2011. The objective of the laboratory is to provide conditions for teaching activities in the area of basic microbiology and support the research in biotechnology. The topics are linked to molecular microbiology: genomics, proteomics and metabolomics of microorganisms; fermentation processes of microorganisms of industrial interest, in addition to bioprospecting of biomolecules and microorganisms. As teaching activity, practical classes in microbiology are held in the laboratory by professors from CCBS linked to undergraduate courses in Biological Sciences, Nursing, Medicine and Dentistry. Professors of PPBG teach practical classes related to the disciplines of Industrial Microbiology, Technology for the Production of Recombinant Proteins, Genetics of Microorganisms, Production of Immunopharmaceuticals and Vaccines. In addition, professors and students of master and doctoral degrees linked to the industrial biotechnology’s area of PPBG perform his research in this laboratory. The laboratory is pioneer in the implementation of the 5S program and Good Laboratory Practices at CCBS. Since 2016, it has been certified by the National Technical Commission on Biosafety (CNTBio) for working with Genetically Modified Microorganisms at level 1.
